Women Leaders

Since we have been out of balance so heavily towards the male, it is going to be the feminine energy, which will now move into a place of enormous influence and enormous impact.

Neale Donald Walsch

The stories are countless, the pain and struggle real. But the tide is finally turning, as our planet teeters on the cusp of something previously only dreamed of: The surge of women-power.

Nature is helping with a powerful assist. To bring equilibrium back to a world seriously out of whack.

Over the millenniums, masculine energy has been the sole ruler of the roost with traits like logic, strength, loyalty, pride, and power. In the 20th Century alone over 100,000,000 humans were killed through pure-masculine world wars, civil wars, and genocides. Natural order now calls for relief as the feminine flows into place. Bringing wholeness to the broken; sanity to the insanity.

Examples, sprinkled throughout history, are now gaining steam. From President Lincoln to Queen Elizabeth to Mahatma Gandhi, who led India to peace through nonviolence, inspiring other leaders worldwide. The notorious Ruth Bader Ginsburg brought gender equality to our country; Greta Thurnburg amplified climate awareness, urging action among leaders worldwide; and Malala Yousafzai, spoke out for the education of girls while she was just a girl. Despite a gunshot wound to her head she continued to advocate for female education and win a Nobel Peace Prize.

It’s time to seize the moment. To rock your feminine side and qualities of empathy and creativity, compassion and community, intuition and feelings, nurturing and understanding. These are all traits that have been historically diminished as inferior and brushed aside as weak.

You (and the world!) need both masculine and feminine energetic approaches to be balanced and whole. And so a natural rebalancing has set in and a new era has begun.

Life has become a lot like watching Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot a few years back. When Dave looked over noticing my ear-to-ear grin, and asked, “How are you liking the movie so far?”

I said, “It’s women-power, Jake! I love it!!”

It’s showing up everywhere, like rebuilding our home from crumbling ramshackle to an idyllic cottage.

My intention was to make efficient use of every inch of the 1,200-square feet. When it came to accessing the sleeping loft, I went to Pinterest and found the perfect staircase. It had the pitch of a ladder with valuable storage pockets underneath. I shared the picture with our contractors only to be blindsided when I returned days later and they pronounced my staircase implausible, saying. “We’ve spent hours talking about it, and have figured out all the reasons why it won’t work.”

Enter Glenda, the “Handy Ma’am” who worked after-hours on our finishing work. An unsung treasure in the male-oriented construction community, with 39 years of building experience and 9.5 fingers to prove it. She understood what I wanted and said, “Sure, we can do that!” She created the perfect staircase (which is amazingly Pinterest-worthy). A shining example of what a little understanding, empathy, and creativity can bring to the process.

Or with Lacy, my oldest daughter, who just accepted an editorial position with a female-founded, NASDAQ-traded internet services company. The hierarchy of female bosses made it easy for her as a working mom to say “yes!”, offering a generous wage plus benefits package with an ability to create her own hours, unlimited PTO, work-from-home flexibility, and the kicker: 16-weeks paid maternity leave and 6-weeks paid paternity. Though she’s not planning more kids, she said, “It says so much about their company culture. I want to work for an organization like that!”

Women leaders often get it because they’ve lived it. Now they’re making life easier for other working parents to benefit from compassionate, family-friendly policies.

As a result, more women will likely stay engaged in their careers while raising children — being at more decision-making tables and in the pipelines for future leadership positions.

It’s a new day. And I for one, am passionately cheering on people of all ages, sidelined for eons because of their femininity.

This is why a few of us – including the women-run Her WolfPAC – have been actively recruiting female candidates to run for city government. Because for any number of reasons, women rarely come up with the idea on their own. They need to be invited, sometimes over and over again before they’re ready to take the plunge.

Today Spencer’s City Council and leadership consist of all men ranging roughly in ages 45- to 85-years old.  Having sat at that table, I know firsthand the impact a woman’s voice makes, offering a different angle and set of priorities having maneuvered through this man-made world as a none-male.

I plan to push the scale for candidates who embody their feminine aspects and present a balanced perspective.

Throwing momentum behind these candidates will help accelerate their presence, influence, and impact and bring equity into the 21st-Century limelight.

Humanity’s on a roll. Old ways are crumbling and new ones rising up in their places with feminine energy leading the way, blending into a more inclusive, collaborative, progressive society.

It’s time. Take your places and let your feminine flow, to reshape the world.
